The National Summertime
Pack Award
Cub Scouting is
best when it operates as a year-round program....and that includes the summer
months of June, July & August. During the summer months Cub Scouts and
their families can participate in many Scouting activities that are educational
and fun! A full summer program keeps a pack healthy, parents interested, and Cub
Scouts eager to register for another year. As you do these events
also make sure you let your local newspaper & radio station know about it.
It is great when we can read about your Cub Packs every week in the
Stillwater News Press, the Ponca City News, etc. Other kids will
read about your plans to go to Day Camp and will want to sign up
in the fall.
Participating in
these Summertime activities also gives the Cub Scout, his Den, and your
entire Pack an opportunity to earn the National Summertime Pack Award.
This is also an important component of the Quality Unit Program
for your Pack. This web page describe this program in detail and
explain ways to help you plan your Cubbing summer activities and qualify for the
award.
In past years if
your Pack did qualify for the award, you would have had to pay for your Ribbon
& Certificate BUT NOT ANY MORE! Because our Ema'O Mahpe Order
of the Arrow Lodge is committed to promoting Camping across the Cimarron
Council, they have agreed to underwrite the cost of all unit certificates and
awards. When your Pack earns this award now and in the future, an O.A.
Lodge Officer will come to your Roundtable to make the presentation to your
leaders. They might even be in Native American regalia!
The Requirements for the
National Summertime Pack Award
All the pack has
to do is plan and conduct a monthly pack activity for June, July, and August.
The whole idea is to keep your pack together and doing things during the summer
when boys have the most free time. Obviously our Day Camps planned for the
summer of 2008 in Woodward, Enid, Stroud, Stillwater, Cleveland, and Ponca City
will take care of June and is a very important activity for your Pack to
participate in. We also have Resident Camp for both Cub Scouts &
Webelos at Will Rogers Scout Reservation in June, and even a Family Cub Resident
Camp at Williams Scout Reservation in July. You might consider Scout Days
at Fun & Sun in Ponca City or water parks in Enid or Cushing or other Pack
events in July & August for your other events. In February the Scout
Office will again mail out Day Camp information to each of your Cub Scouts as
well as registered leaders.
An application for
the National Summertime Pack Award is given to each Pack during the Fall Program
Kickoff what we conduct each year at Sundance. Contact your District
Executive if you need another copy.

The Recognitions
A
pack committee member should keep the record of activities, participation of
dens, and attendance of Cub Scouts. Submit the application form to the Cimarron
Council service center as soon after your last August activity as
possible. An appropriate pack meeting ceremony should be planned for the
presentation of the awards, which include:
For the Pack - A full-color
certificate suitable for framing and an attractive
streamer ribbon for the pack flag. Both the unit ribbon
and certificate are provided by our O.A. Lodge at no charge to qualifying
Cub Packs.
For the Dens of the award
earning Pack - A
den
ribbon for each den that has 50 percent or more of its boys
participating in each of the three activities. The Den Ribbons are
available for purchase the Scout Shop. To see the ribbon click

For the boys who are in an
award earning Pack - A pin for each boy who takes part in all
of the summer months' activities is also available for purchase.

Cub Scout Outdoor Activity
Award
Tiger Cubs, Wolf and Bear Cub Scouts, and
Webelos Scouts have the opportunity to earn the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity
Award. Boys may earn the award in each of the program years as long as the
requirements are completed each year. The first time the award is earned, the
boy will receive the pocket flap award, which is to be worn on the right pocket
