High Adventure

High Adventure in Cimarron Council! Learn more about the extensive Climbing High Adventure programs of the Cimarron Council. We are very fortunate to have TWO Climbing facilities in our council at Williams Scout Reservation with the Climbing Tower AND Will Rogers Scout Reservation with the natural rock face on the cliffs of Cedar Point. We have training and events conducted year round as well as extensive inventory and an ever growing list of certified Climbing Instructors. Take CLIMB ON SAFELY and get involved with all of the Climbing projects in our council. Congratulations to Climbing Chairman Jim Keith for developing this website for us.

High Adventure & Cimarron Council & Beyond:

Here is the place for information about our Council High Adventure Base Contingents, Our Awesome "Cimarron Climbers" Climbing Program, Activities for Venture Crews, Powderhorn, and other opportunities to see more, do more, and experience everything that Scouting has to offer. We are also announcing the creation of our High Adventure Committee and the new Triple Crown Award for camping both in Cimarron Council at all three of our camp properties as well as the National Gold Award for Camping at least a week at all three National High Adventure Bases.

The purpose of this web page is to take some of the mystery out of planning a High Adventure trek. It is to be used by a Troop, Team, or Crew to look at all of the options that exist and where to go to get more information on a particular activity. While this website can not cover every possible activity, it will try to guide a troop in the right direction. It is meant to help both scouts and scout leaders thoroughly plan and complete a high adventure activity.

During a typical Troop PLC meeting, scouts typically tend to plan activities they have done in the past. This is where the Cimarron Council High Adventure website comes in. Challenge the scouts to look at the different activities they may want to try. Then following the process they can (with the help of the scout leaders) plan a new experience.

Visit the National Scout Database of High Adventure Opportunities & Bases in the United States. Search by Geographic Location, program, or by when special High Adventure activities are offered. To begin your search, Click HERE

Decide on what activities you want to try. Depending on the amount of time, scouts and funds you have, review the resources available. It may be best to go to a state park and rent the proper equipment. If you want to combine activities look for an area where you can do both. For example, in Northeastern Oklahoma you can whitewater raft in the morning at one location, then rock climb in the afternoon at another.
