Youth Eligibility
To become a member, a youth must be a registered Boy Scout or
Varsity Scout and hold the first class rank. He must have
experienced 15 days and nights of Boy Scout camping during the
two-year period prior to election. The 15 days and nights must
include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six
consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and
under the auspices and standards of the BSA. The balance of the
camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps.
Following approval by the Scoutmaster or Varsity team Coach, Scouts
are elected to seek membership in the Order by their fellow unit
members. Then, after completing the Ordeal experience, they become
members of the Order of the Arrow. Each spring & summer our lodge
sends out election teams to every troop in the Cimarron Council
where all of the registered Boy Scouts can vote on their candidates
for Ordeal induction. To schedule an O.A. presentation, contact your
Chapter Chief or Advisor at one of our four Roundtables.
All elections must take place
with a Lodge Election Team between January 1st & June 30th each
year.
Adult Eligibility
Each year, upon holding a troop or team election for youth
candidates that results in at least one youth candidate being
elected, the unit committee may recommend one adult to the lodge
adult selection committee, with the approval of the Scout Executive,
will be candidates for induction, providing the following conditions
are fulfilled:
Nominees must be registered with the Cimarron Council. Adult
selection is based on their ability to perform the necessary
functions to help the Order fulfill its purpose, and not for
recognition of service, including current or prior achievement
and position. The individual will be an asset to the Order because
of demonstrated abilities that fulfill the purpose of the Order. The
camping requirements set forth for youth members must be fulfilled.
The adult leader's membership will provide a positive role model for
the growth and development of the youth members of the lodge. The
lodge adviser, district chairman, council president, or members of
the professional staff may recommend adults to the lodge adult
selection committee. Adult nominations must be made at the same time
as your Troop or Team elections. Schedule one today by contacting
you District OA Advisor.
The Orders
There are three levels of
membership in the Order of the Arrow.
Ordeal Membership
The induction process, the Ordeal, is the first step toward full
membership in the OA. During this period the member is expected to
strengthen his involvement in the unit and encourage Scout camping.
If you are about to
go through your Ordeal, Ema 'O Mahpe Lodge welcomes you. You
will be joining other scouts who have also been selected by a vote
of scouts in their respective troops. Like you, they are looking for
more avenues of new and exciting
activities.
We invite you to take this opportunity
and do everything you can to benefit from this recognition given to
you by your troop. Since the OA is a service organization, you will
have the opportunity to provide service to Cimarron Council and your
troop. But in return, you will have the opportunity to attend
special events, to learn to make Native American regalia, and be
given new leadership opportunities.
Activities that you can do are:
 |
Events -
Conclave, Pow Wow, and the Annual Lodge Dinner |
| |
|
 |
Service - Ordeal
Induction Weekends, Camporees, and Camp Promotions |
| |
|
 |
Native American
Activities - You can learn to make Native American regalia, learn to
build crafts like chokers and headdresses, learn Native American
dances or play the drum for the dancers. |

| How To Become An Active OA Member |
 |
Attend lodge
meetings |
| |
|
 |
Read your OA
handbook. The handbook has a wealth of information about the Order of the
Arrow and what you can do to serve and have fun. |
| |
|
 |
Volunteer to be
your Troop OA Representative. This is a position that can be used for rank advancement.
|
| |
|
 |
As an active member, you can work towards your Brotherhood honor. |
The National Order of the Arrow has created a web site that can help
you with a jumpstart. It is called
Jump Start for New Arrowmen.
The Ordeal
Membership is signified with a single red arrow sash.

Brotherhood Membership
After 10 months of service as an Ordeal member and after fulfilling
certain requirements, a member may take part in the Brotherhood
ceremony, which places further emphasis on the ideals of Scouting
and the Order. Completion of this ceremony signifies full membership
in the Order of the Arrow. Our goal is to have at least a 30%
Brotherhood conversion rate among all eligible members of our lodge.
All members in the Order of the Arrow
are equal. Each member is entitled to all the rights and
privileges of membership in the Order. Yet, the OA is strengthened
by brotherhood within the membership. To recognize those who have
given service within the OA membership and are willing to reaffirm
their belief in the Order by accepting the five challenges, each
Ordeal member is encouraged to earn Brotherhood.
After being an active Ordeal member for 10 months and completing the
five challenges listed below, you may take part in the Brotherhood
ceremony.
| The Five Challenges |
 |
Memorize the
signs of Arrow membership. Memorize the Obligation of the Order,
which you received from Allowat Sakima (printed on the back of your
membership card and in your handbook). Also, memorize the Order of
the Arrow Official Song, the Admonition, the sign of Ordeal
membership and Arrow handclasp. |
| |
|
 |
Advance in your
understanding of the Ordeal. Gain a thorough understanding of the
Ordeal through which you have passed.
|
| |
|
 |
Serve you unit
and retain your registration in Scouting. During a period of at
least 10 months, strive to fulfill your Obligation by continuing and
expanding your service to your troop or team. |
| |
|
 |
Plan for service
in your lodge. Retain you registration in your Order of the Arrow
lodge and keep your dues paid. Be aware that acceptance of
Brotherhood membership involves a pledge of service to the lodge.
develop a concrete idea of how you plan to fulfill this pledge. |
| |
|
 |
Review your progress. When you earnestly feel that you have
met the challenges above, write a letter to your lodge membership
secretary. In this letter: |
| |
- Explain what you think the Obligation means.
- Describe how you have been fulfilling this Obligation in you troop
or team and in you daily life, and how you have used you
understanding of the Ordeal to aid in this service.
- Describe you specific plans for giving service in the lodge program.
|
If you regularly attend Lodge meetings, you will be informed as to
when the next Brotherhood Ceremony will be.
Brotherhood
Membership is signified by a red arrow with two bars on a white
sash.

Vigil Honor
The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and recognition
reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service,
personal effort, and unselfish interest have made distinguished
contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their
position or office to one or more of the following: their lodge, the
Order of the Arrow, Scouting, or their Scout camp. Under no
circumstances should tenure in Scouting or the Order of the Arrow be
considered reason enough for a Vigil Honor recommendation.
Any member of the Order of the Arrow registered in Scouting and in
good standing in a regularly chartered lodge is eligible for
recommendation to the National Order of the Arrow Committee for
elevation to the Vigil Honor, provided that at the time of
recommendation, the individual has been a Brotherhood member for a
minimum of two years. This honor is
limited to not more than one Arrowman for
every 50 members registered with the lodge each year. In our Lodge
we can select up to five a year.
Vigil Membership is
signified by a red arrow with a triangle on the shaft which contains
4 arrows and two bars on a white sash.

Dues & Lodge Membership
Membership applications for our lodge are always available at the
Council Service Center in Enid. They are also available as a PDF at
